Safety first

Being proficient in swimming provides confidence and the ability to act in water. It can save your own or someone else’s life in an emergency and allows you to enjoy water activities peacefully.

The Nordic definition of swimming proficiency states: a person who, after falling into deep water, can surface and swim 200 meters, of which at least 50 meters are on their back. This is not a given but a goal everyone should strive for. If you cannot do this, you are not considered proficient in swimming.

With sufficient practice, you can swim or float virtually indefinitely. Water will not overwhelm you.

Swimming is a full-body workout

Swimming is a joint-friendly, effective, and versatile form of exercise. It raises your heart rate, strengthens muscles, and improves endurance—all without impact. Therefore, it is also suitable for individuals who are overweight or have mobility limitations.

Swimming is excellent for a lifestyle change. Depending on the pace, you can burn between 300-800 kcal during an hour of swimming.

Endless enjoyment

Once you master swimming, moving in water becomes relaxed, enjoyable, and virtually limitless. You can swim or float effortlessly and without fear—whether it’s at a cottage lake, swimming hall, or open water.

Would you like to learn how to swim well?

You can learn to swim independently, but if you want to develop proper and efficient technique from the start, guided instruction is essential.

For children

For adults

If you get excited about swimming, adults can later explore activities like freediving or winter swimming.
